Noon, then a slow slide into sunset, then a dark blue night, all happening behind you while you talk. Day and Night 3D World is a free low poly forest that follows the time of day, built to sit behind your camera as a living backdrop.
It is free to use, and it replaces the usual choice between a flat image and an empty wall.
Works with Camera Mood Grade
The lighting layer for your camera. Sandwich your camera between the two: the 3D world below it with its background removed, and the Camera Mood Grade above it.
How it looks and works
The scene is a stylized forest in soft, faceted low poly shapes. The sky moves through a bright blue day, a warm sunset, and a night sky, so the mood of the stream changes without you touching anything. The second video above shows it with a camera in place.
Who it is for
Streamers who talk to camera for long stretches: Just Chatting hosts, art and study streamers, podcast style shows, and anyone who wants a room to sit in instead of a plain gradient. It also suits creators who stream from a space they would rather not show. The overlay does not react to chat commands or events, so it stays calm and never competes with your alerts or your game.
Adding it to your stream
Download Meld Studio, drop the world into a scene, and set your camera as described above. If you already run OBS and would rather stay there, the free Spark Plug for OBS plugin brings the same overlay into your existing scene. Either way, it works across Twitch, YouTube Live, Kick, and TikTok Live from a single sign-in.
How it works
- 1 Add the Day and Night 3D World to your scene, below your camera, as the backdrop.
- 2 On your camera, turn on Background Effects and choose Remove, so the 3D world shows behind you.
- 3 Add the Camera Mood Grade above your camera layer. It tints your camera to match the time of day in the world.
Use cases
-
Long streams that need a changing backdrop
A four hour Just Chatting session looks the same at the start and at the end when your background is a static image. With a backdrop that slides from a bright sky into sunset and then night, the scene visibly moves on even when nothing else does, which gives returning viewers a reason to notice how long you have been live.
-
Replacing a messy room behind your camera
If your real background is a bedroom wall or a shelf you would rather not show, turn on Background Effects, choose Remove, and the forest appears behind you instead. Pair it with the Camera Mood Grade so the light on your face matches the world, and you no longer look like a cutout pasted over a scene.
-
Cozy and variety streams that want atmosphere
Art streams, study sessions, and chill talk shows all benefit from a scene that feels like a place. Park the camera in the middle of the forest, let the sky settle into night, and the whole stream reads as an evening hangout.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Day and Night 3D World overlay free?
Yes. It sits in the free Meld gallery, so you can add it to a scene and start streaming with it right away. There is nothing to render or export first.
Which streaming platforms does it work on?
Twitch, YouTube Live, Kick, and TikTok Live are all supported. Meld signs you in once and works across every platform you stream to, so the same forest backdrop shows up on all four at the same time.
How do I put the 3D world behind my camera?
Add the world to your scene below your camera layer, then open your camera and turn on Background Effects with the Remove option. Your camera feed stays on top and the forest shows through where your real background used to be.
What does the Camera Mood Grade do?
It is a lighting layer that goes above your camera and tints your image to match the time of day in the world. When the sky turns to sunset, the light on you warms up with it, and at night it cools down.
Does it work with OBS Studio?
Yes. Spark Plug for OBS brings the 3D world and the Camera Mood Grade into your existing OBS scene, and Meld Spark lets you customize them in seconds. You can keep your current OBS setup and still get the day and night backdrop.
