Most chat games are about who wins. Choose Your Own Adventure is about who steers. A scene appears with three options labeled A, B, and C, viewers cast votes by typing the letter, and the highest tally takes the story into the next scene. The audience writes the run together, one branching choice at a time.

It is free with Meld Studio. No watermark, no per-stream cap, no setup steps before the first scene loads.

How the voting works

Every scene presents a short setup and three labeled options. Chat votes by typing A, B, or C, no command prefix, no extra syntax. The overlay tallies the votes live, the winning letter is locked in once the timer ends, and the story advances to a new scenario built around that choice. Each path carries its own outcomes, so the run a Tuesday audience walks through is genuinely different from the one a Thursday crew steers, even when both start at the same opening scene.

The single-letter vote is the lowest possible bar to participation. A first-time viewer can land on the channel, watch one scene, and contribute to the next one with a single keystroke. Regulars get something deeper: branching outcomes that build a real history across streams, with running gags that stick around because chat actually picked them.

Votes from Twitch, YouTube Live, Kick, and TikTok Live all feed the same tally. Multistream audiences shape one shared story instead of running parallel adventures in four separate rooms.

When streamers use it

The overlay fits a few specific stream shapes well. Storytelling-heavy Just Chatting blocks turn into collaborative fiction. Subathon hours and community nights get a single low-friction activity that pulls the entire audience in at once. Variety streamers can drop a quick adventure between segments as a recurring bit, with the run resetting cleanly for each session.

It also works as a stream-opening warm-up, with viewers arriving early and steering the first few scenes while you finish setup. By the time you switch to the main scene, chat is already invested in the run.

Customizing with Meld Spark

The default story works out of the box. Meld Spark, the AI overlay editor inside Meld Studio, lets you write your own from a single prompt. Something like “Create a horror-themed adventure with spooky sound effects” rewrites the narrative, the tone, and the audio cues at once. You can ask for sci-fi runs, fantasy quests, custom inside-joke storylines, or seasonal themes, and the change persists between sessions so the next stream picks up where the new setup left off.

Adding it to your stream

Download Meld Studio and the overlay drops into a scene with no configuration, with chat connections to Twitch, YouTube, Kick, and TikTok already linked from a single sign-in. If you already run OBS, the free Spark Plug for OBS plugin loads the same overlay as a browser source inside your existing OBS scene, with the same A/B/C voting and the same multi-platform tally.

Use cases

  • Just Chatting and storytelling streams

For a Just Chatting block built around an unfolding story, chat needs a way to participate that goes beyond reacting in the message feed. Letting viewers vote A, B, or C on each scene turns the audience into co-authors, and the branching outcomes give regulars a reason to come back the next stream to see where their choices led.

  • Subathon segments and community nights

During a subathon hour or a planned community event, an adventure run gives the whole audience a single shared activity. The vote prompt lowers the bar to participation: anyone in chat can type one letter and influence the next scene, which keeps lurkers engaged and pulls first-time viewers straight into the cast.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Choose Your Own Adventure overlay free?

Yes. Choose Your Own Adventure is included free with Meld Studio. There is no paywall, no watermark, and no per-stream usage cap. Drop it into a scene and chat can vote on the next scene the moment the overlay loads.

How does chat vote on the story?

Each scene presents three options labeled A, B, and C. Viewers type A, B, or C in chat to cast their vote, the highest-voted choice wins the scene, and the story branches into a new scenario based on the result. There is no special command syntax, just a single letter.

Which platforms can my viewers vote from?

Twitch, YouTube Live, Kick, and TikTok Live are all supported. Meld signs you in once and pulls chat from every platform you stream to, so a vote from a YouTube viewer counts the same as one from a Kick or Twitch viewer in the same scene.

Does this work with OBS Studio?

Yes. Spark Plug for OBS loads the adventure overlay into your existing OBS scene as a browser source, and Meld Spark lets you write a custom story, retheme the visuals, or change the number of choices from a plain-English prompt in seconds. No code, no migration.

Can I write my own story or change the theme?

Yes. Meld Spark, the AI overlay editor included with Meld Studio, handles story rewrites from a single prompt. Something like "Create a horror-themed adventure with spooky sound effects" replaces the narrative and the styling at once, with the change persisting between sessions.
