A lone survivor, a 10x10 grid, and a chat steering every move. The run cycles through exploration, random encounters, and outcomes: moving costs Supplies, fighting costs HP, and the run ends when HP hits zero. Chat votes the next direction, calls the encounter response, and earns Care Packages whenever a viewer gifts a sub or drops 100 or more bits.

It is free with Meld Studio. No watermark, no per-stream cap, no separate accounts for viewers.

How the run plays

The grid is the survivor’s whole world for the run. During the exploration phase, chat votes a direction with !go north, !go south, !go east, or !go west, and the highest-voted choice steps the survivor into the next square. From there an encounter resolves: a zombie pulls up !fight versus !run, a building offers !search versus !pass, and the end of the day asks for !camp versus !keepgoing.

Commands are context-sensitive. Each one only counts during its matching phase, so the chaos of chat all typing at once gets channeled into the decision that actually applies. The cost structure shapes the strategy: !fight burns HP, !run burns Supplies, !camp restores HP and advances the day, and !keepgoing presses the run forward at the cost of resources. Chat learns the trade-offs across a single session, which turns a casual mini-game into something that rewards repeat viewers.

Care Packages are the audience’s lever. A gifted sub or a bits donation of 100 or more drops a package onto the grid in real time, restoring HP and Supplies and pulling the run back from the edge. Every gift becomes both a celebration moment and a mechanical save, with the visible effect on screen for everyone watching.

Chat from Twitch, YouTube Live, Kick, and TikTok Live all feeds the same run. A multi-platform audience steers one survivor across one shared grid.

When to use it

The overlay fits long-form content where chat needs an ongoing story to follow. Subathon hours pair especially well with the Care Package mechanic, since gifted subs already drive the energy of the block and now have a visible payoff inside the run. Marathon streams, milestone events, and community nights work for the same reason: the run develops its own arc over the course of hours, with regulars learning the patterns and pulling new viewers into the strategy.

It also works as a sustained side activity during a main playthrough. The grid lives quietly in the corner, advancing on chat votes between encounters while the main game holds the central canvas.

Customizing with Meld Spark

The default run ships balanced and ready to play. Meld Spark, the AI overlay editor inside Meld Studio, lets you tune it from plain English. A prompt like “Add a boss zombie wave every 3 days that requires 5 care packages to survive, and add a rare weapon drop to searches” extends the encounter table, raises the Care Package threshold, and adds a new loot drop at once. You can rebalance the cost structure, add encounter types, or theme the run for a specific event, with the change persisting between sessions.

Adding it to your stream

Download Meld Studio and the survival overlay drops into a scene with no configuration, with chat connections to Twitch, YouTube, Kick, and TikTok already linked from a single sign-in. If you would rather stay in OBS, the free Spark Plug for OBS plugin loads the same overlay as a browser source inside your existing OBS scene, with the same context-sensitive commands and the same Care Package integration.

Use cases

  • Subathon hours that reward bits and gifted subs

Donating 100 or more bits or gifting a sub drops a Care Package that restores HP and Supplies in real time. That makes the overlay especially well suited to subathon blocks, where every gift is already a celebration moment and now also has a visible mechanical payoff inside an ongoing run.

  • Long-form content with a recurring side narrative

For multi-hour streams, a tactical survival run gives chat a sustained narrative to follow alongside the main game. Each day on the grid is its own arc of exploration, encounters, and camp decisions, so regulars get a continuing story to participate in rather than a one-off mini-game.

Frequently asked questions

Is the zombie survival overlay free?

Yes. The zombie survival game is included free with Meld Studio. There is no paywall, no watermark, and no per-stream usage cap. Drop it into a scene and chat can start steering the survivor immediately.

How does chat steer the survivor?

Commands are context-sensitive and only count during the matching phase. Exploration uses !go north, !go south, !go east, and !go west to vote a direction. Encounters use !fight or !run for zombies, !search or !pass for buildings, and !camp or !keepgoing at night.

What do bits and gifted subs do?

Donating 100 or more bits or gifting a sub drops a Care Package onto the grid in real time, restoring HP and Supplies for the survivor. The reward is mechanical: a gift directly extends the run, which makes every contribution visible inside the ongoing story.

Which platforms can my viewers play from?

Twitch, YouTube Live, Kick, and TikTok Live are all supported. Meld signs you in once and pulls chat from every platform you stream to, so direction votes and encounter calls from every platform feed the same survivor on the same 10x10 grid.

Does this work with OBS Studio?

Yes. Spark Plug for OBS loads the survival overlay into your existing OBS scene as a browser source, and Meld Spark lets you add encounter types, raise the Care Package threshold, or add boss waves from a plain-English prompt in seconds. No code, no migration.

Can I tune the difficulty or add new encounters?

Yes. Meld Spark, the AI overlay editor included with Meld Studio, handles game tuning from a single prompt. Something like "Add a boss zombie wave every 3 days that requires 5 care packages to survive, and add a rare weapon drop to searches" rebalances the run on the spot and the change persists between sessions.
