Meld Studio is available for Windows and macOS.

1. Download Meld Studio from the official download page.
2. Locate and run the MeldStudio.appinstaller file.
3. Click Install.
4. Launch Meld Studio.

2. Drag Meld Studio into the Applications folder.
3. Close the window and press ⏏️ in Finder to dismount the image.
4. Launch Meld Studio.

Meld Studio updates automatically on Windows and macOS. To check manually on macOS:

1. Navigate to Settings > Updates.
2. Click the Check for Updates button.

If an update is available, download it and restart Meld Studio.

Solutions to common installation issues on Windows.

The MeldStudio.appinstaller file is small. After you click Install, Windows' App Installer downloads Meld Studio itself, about 550 MB. If that download stalls or fails, use the full installer instead. Your browser downloads Meld Studio, then App Installer installs it.

1. Download the full installer (MeldStudioInstaller.msix, about 550 MB).
2. Open MeldStudioInstaller.msix from your downloads.
3. Click Install.

Your browser may say the file could harm your device. Browsers say that about installer files from sites you haven't visited before. In your downloads, select the ⋯ next to the file, choose Keep, then open it.

App Installer comes with Windows and opens both .appinstaller and .msix files. If opening the file does nothing, or Windows asks which app to use:

1. Update App Installer from its Microsoft Store page, then open the file again.
2. If it still doesn't open, install Meld Studio with PowerShell. This doesn't need administrator rights. Open the Start menu, type PowerShell, open Windows PowerShell and run:

Add-AppxPackage -AppInstallerFile "$env:USERPROFILE\Downloads\MeldStudio.appinstaller"

If that fails too, download the full installer as described above and run:

Add-AppxPackage -Path "$env:USERPROFILE\Downloads\MeldStudioInstaller.msix"

If your browser saved the file somewhere else, or renamed it, change the path to match.

Meld Studio isn't in the Microsoft Store.

• A PC in S mode only runs apps from the Microsoft Store, so it can't install Meld Studio. Switching out of S mode is free and one-way: see Microsoft's S mode FAQ.
• Work and school PCs can be set to block apps from outside the Microsoft Store. Ask your IT administrator.

Verify that your device is updated to the latest version by following these steps:

1. Click the Start button.
2. Open Settings.
3. Navigate to Windows Update.
4. Verify that there are no pending updates and install them if necessary.

Some antivirus software may incorrectly flag the Meld Studio installer as a virus.
This is a false positive — Meld Studio is safe to install.

To verify the file’s safety, you can upload the installer manually to VirusTotal for scanning.
We recommend uploading the .msix installer file to check if any antivirus tools are flagging it.

If your antivirus blocks the download, you can:

• Temporarily disable real-time protection while installing (don’t forget to turn it back on after)
• Or manually mark the file as safe/trusted within your antivirus settings

If your antivirus flags Meld Studio incorrectly:

• Temporarily disable your antivirus software while installing Meld Studio. Re-enable the antivirus after installation is complete.

• Whitelist Meld Studio in your antivirus settings.

If McAfee's WebAdvisor tool prevents downloading or installing Meld Studio:

• Disable WebAdvisor temporarily during installation.
• Alternatively, uninstall WebAdvisor if it is unnecessary for your workflow.

In the case of installation failing followed with a prompt for Microsoft.WebView2, download and install it from the Microsoft WebView2 Runtime page.

1. Visit the Microsoft WebView2 Runtime page.
2. Click Download.
3. Download the Evergreen Standalone Installer x64.

This tends to be an Access Denied type of error code.

• Update your system drivers.
• Run the Windows System File Checker by opening Command Prompt as an administrator and entering: sfc /scannow

This error occurs due to certain Windows files being corrupted.

• Run the Windows Troubleshooter for Windows Update.
• If the issue persists, open Command Prompt as an administrator and run: sfc /scannow

Windows couldn't complete the certificate chain it uses to verify the installer, so it can't confirm who signed it. The Install button stays grayed out.

Ask your IT administrator to:

• Check the Turn off Automatic Root Certificates Update and Restrict Internet communication policies. Either one can stop Windows from completing the chain.
• Allow the Sectigo Public Code Signing Root R46 root certificate and the Sectigo Public Code Signing CA EV R36 intermediate certificate.

Microsoft's Configure trusted roots and disallowed certificates explains the DisableRootAutoUpdate registry value behind the first policy: 0 or no value means updates are on, and the value stays set after the group policy is removed.

Contact support and include the install log. To get it, open Windows PowerShell right after the install fails and run Get-AppxLog, which shows the log of the most recent install. If you installed with Add-AppxPackage, its error includes an ActivityId: run Get-AppxLog -ActivityId <id> with that ID instead.

The MeldStudio.appinstaller is an MSIX package installed in the fixed location C:\Program Files\WindowsApps. This path is managed by Windows and cannot be changed.
