Meet GooseTowne - The Artist Who Swapped Theater Lights for Stream Lights

On this page

When New York City's theaters went dark in March 2020, GooseTowne found himself no longer able to continue his education. Rather than stop performing, he brewed himself some coffee and decided to take his laptop, a sketchbook, and his Nintendo Switch and began streaming Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The very same comfy game that dominated global sales and became a lockdown comfort game for millions. From his first streams to building an accessible, visually rich on-screen brand, GooseTowne demonstrates how authenticity, the right tools, and a community-centered mindset can be fulfilling.

The Creative Essentials

Coffee & Sketchbooks

GooseTowne credits coffee and his sketchbook as non-negotiables for streaming and the ideation process. As a former barista, he values coffee as a much-needed fuel. With his cup of coffee he's ready to open up his sketchbook to map out streaming concepts and creative designs.

Must Have Software

Content Creators oftentimes have to use more than one type of software for graphic design, streaming, and video editing. We asked GooseTowne what programs (besides Meld, of course!) he would recommend to other streamers that can benefit them in their journey.

In Canva you can choose from social media templates to streaming overlays.

Canva

If you're looking for templates that are catered towards livestreamers, Canva is a great option. It offers a wide variety of free, professional-looking templates designed specifically for live streaming platforms like Twitch and YouTube. You can customize overlays, webcam frames, intro/outro animations, panel layouts, streaming schedules, and more!

Davinci Resolve allows you to edit your content with a free version.

Davinci Resolve

When GooseTowne needs to edit his content, he chooses to use Davinci Resolve. The free version of Blackmagic Design's industry-standard editing suite combines powerful tools for video editing, color grading, audio mixing (Fairlight), and visual FX all in one software package.

Content Workflow

Everyone has a content workflow that they do. Some are more effective than others and when it comes to GooseTowne, his workflow is a smart process!

Clipping Done Right

Utilizing his Stream Deck, GooseTowne created a button that triggers clips in both Twitch and Meld Studio. The Twitch button makes a 30 to 60-second clip instantly, while the Meld version captures a longer 90-second highlight that is pre-cropped for vertical formats. That extra length is a lifesaver when he's late hitting the clip button, so he still gets the full moment for editing.

Not only does double clipping give him options, but he can leverage Twitch's VOD editor by adding streamer markers with his stream deck to find and analyze sections to prep for longer compilations. Adding stream markers and clipping natively in Meld Studio as well as on Twitch allows for an organized system. It makes it easy to sift through twitch clips and cross-reference dates when searching for content to edit and then using the native clips for the best quality.

đź’¬ Why Goose Rates Meld Studio 5/5

"I chose a score of 5 overall for Meld as it exceeds expectations. I’m blown away by the stability, performance, and quality. It’s lightweight while still delivering all the professional-grade features I need."

Before switching to Meld, Goose explored several streaming platforms, but none offered the perfect mix of performance and user-friendliness. As a creator working on hardware that couldn’t keep up with bloated software, Meld stood out immediately for its low system impact and intuitive interface.

"If you've ever felt like your creativity is being limited by what your computer can handle, Meld gives you your power back."

🛠️ Features & Ease of Use

While Goose gave Meld a 4/5 for features (we’re still evolving and we love honest feedback!), they gave top marks for ease of use:

"The UI is incredibly well thought out. I never feel like I’m fighting the software to make my vision come to life."

Our goal is to simplify live streaming, recording, and content creation so you can focus on being creative without wrestling with complex menus or installing third-party plugins just to get basic features like rounded corners or audio control.

🧠 Learning Curve? No Problem.

Meld's built-in onboarding and help channels scored a solid 4/5 for helpfulness:

"Finding tutorials and documentation is easy, and the support from the community is unmatched."

From Discord guides to video walkthroughs, we’re constantly updating our resources to make sure you’re never stuck or overwhelmed. Our website is home to our Documentation which goes over everything in Meld Studio, including integrations and our Widgets.

✨ Creator Wish List: Closed Captions

Goose brought up an incredibly important request: native Closed Captioning support. We know how vital this is for both creators and their communities. It’s already on our radar and we’re excited to build a future where inclusive features are baked in.

Accessibility is important to ensure that you're cultivating content that everyone can enjoy. Goose likes to consider how his streams can be accessible by making sure he uses fonts that are easy to read, high-contrast graphics and allowing a space for closed captions to live on his stream.
